Rare 1973 17LP Box Set Spread Across Six Volumes In Individual Boxes Encased In An Outer Box. The Epic 13 Hour Lecture Series By Leonard Bernstein Liberally Illustrated With Musical Examples. He Had Drawn Analogies Between Music And Linguistics, And He Had Traced The Increasing Complexity Of Harmonic Language From Bach And Mozart To Schoenberg And Stravinsky. Now, Tying Up The Strands Of His Argument, He Offered What In Retrospect Seems A Prescient Prediction. "I Believe That A Great New Era Of Eclecticism Is At Hand, Eclecticism In The Highest Sense," Bernstein Said. "And I Believe It Has Been Made Possible By The Rediscovery - The Reacceptance - Of Tonality, That Universal Earth Out Of Which Such Diversity Can Spring. And No Matter How Serial Or Stochastic Or Otherwise Intellectualized Music May Be, It Can Always Qualify As Poetry, As Long As It Is Rooted In Earth." The First LP, Side One, Has A Superficial Scuff Which Is Inaudible, The Rest Appear Unplayed.
