1988 US 2LP Gatefold (Purple Label). Combines "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" And "A Saucerful Of Secrets" In One Package. Contains the previously released LP "A Saucerful Of Secrets" (ST-5131), plus selections from "Pink Floyd" (ST-5093), "Relics" (SW-759) and "Ummagumma" (STPP-388) plus the single, "Flaming," never before available on LP. Originally released in 1973, this compilation was issued by Harvest Records in the UK and Capitol Records in the US as a way to capitalize on the newfound popularity of Pink Floyd following the massive success of "The Dark Side of the Moon" earlier that year. For many American listeners, it was the first time these early works were widely available, as "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" had previously been released only in a truncated form in the US. The album features the band's original lineup, including Syd Barrett, whose influence is especially prominent on the earlier tracks.

The cover art, designed by Hipgnosis, is notable for its playful and surreal imagery, reflecting the experimental spirit of early Pink Floyd. The packaging became subject to controversy and censorship in some regions due to several suggestive and risqué images. Musically, "A Nice Pair" showcases the transition from Barrett's whimsical, psychedelic pop on "Piper" to the more expansive and atmospheric sound developed on "A Saucerful of Secrets" after David Gilmour joined the band.
