Blue Monday
80's Two-Track 45rpm pressing in die-cut jacket. A stone cold 80's classic, and a stunning listening experience. Should be on the tas list. Also a killer sleeve designed by peter saville, who was easily the best jacket designer of the 80's. “Blue Monday” is an iconic single by the English band New Order, first released in 1983. Fusing synth-pop with elements of electronic dance music, the song became a landmark track in the evolution of 1980s club culture. Known for its distinctive synthesized bassline, driving drum machine patterns, and haunting vocals by Bernard Sumner, “Blue Monday” pushed the boundaries of what mainstream pop could sound like at the time. Its innovative use of technology, including the Oberheim DMX drum machine and sequencers, helped set the template for future electronic and dance music productions.

New Order, formed in Manchester in 1980 from the remaining members of Joy Division after the death of Ian Curtis, quickly established themselves as pioneers in blending post-punk with new wave and electronic influences. “Blue Monday” remains their best-selling single and is recognized as the best-selling 12-inch single of all time. The song’s minimalist, floppy disk-inspired sleeve, designed by Peter Saville, is as legendary as the music itself. “Blue Monday”’s enduring influence is evident in its continual presence in dance clubs, remixes by artists across genres, and regular inclusion in “best of” lists for both the 1980s and the electronic music scene.
