Oxford Circle

Foolish Woman
1967 private label psych music. Oxford Circle was a short-lived but influential psychedelic rock band hailing from Davis, California. Active primarily between 1966 and 1967, the group earned a cult following in the San Francisco Bay Area with their electrifying live performances, sharing stages with acts like The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. Their sound blended garage rock energy with emerging psychedelic influences, characterized by sharp guitar work, driving rhythms, and raw vocals. Although their time together was brief, Oxford Circle’s impact lingered, later recognized by collectors and enthusiasts of 1960s psychedelic and garage rock music.

"Foolish Woman" is Oxford Circle’s best-known recording, released as a single in 1966 on World United Records. The track exemplifies the band’s signature style: gritty fuzz-toned guitars, urgent drum patterns, and an intense vocal delivery that captures the volatile spirit of mid-60s garage rock. "Foolish Woman" has since become a sought-after artifact among vinyl collectors and is featured on numerous garage and psychedelic rock compilations. The song stands as a high-energy testament to the band’s prowess and remains a touchstone for fans exploring the formative years of California’s psychedelic rock scene.
