Built around electric piano, expanded percussion, and funk-oriented grooves, the album reflects Blue Note’s early-’70s move toward jazz-funk. The title track occupies the entire first side, with layered rhythms and extended improvisation giving the sessions a broader, more atmospheric feel than McDuff’s hard bop recordings of the 1960s.
