The Best Of The Youngbloods
Rare & Collectible Vinyl Records

1980 Pressing in shrink. To browse a collection and discover The Best of The Youngbloods is to encounter a crossroads of American musical idealism, distilled through the unique prism of a band both of—and ahead of—their time. There, on the cover, the promise of a paisley-flecked journey; inside, the likes of “Get Together” shimmer with hopeful resonance, while tracks such as “Darkness, Darkness” and “Sunlight” offer the kind of sun-dappled melancholy only the late 1960s could conjure. One finds, in these grooves, the band’s gentle blend of jug band roots, folk lyricism, and country-tinged rock—each track a vignette, each arrangement a window into a San Francisco scene more reflective and intimate than its peers. The curation is shrewd, spanning the group’s most evocative cuts without overindulgence, making it an inviting port of entry for the uninitiated and a convenient single-sit survey for the seasoned. As the stylus finds “Quicksand” or “Euphoria,” so too does the listener stumble upon subtler treasures that reward repeated auditions. In the end, “The Best of The Youngbloods” is not merely a record; it is a dispatch from a gentler revolution, captured in wax and waiting patiently between the sleeves.
