We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye
Beautiful 1956 Deep Groove Mono Original. Features Joe Shulman, Bass And Joe Petti, Drums. Barbara Carroll Was A Promising Young Pianist During The 1950s Whose Style Of Playing Was Similar In Some Ways To Marian McPartland's. But Her Approach To The Material On This Trio Date With Bassist Joe Shulman (Her Husband) And Drummer Joe Petti Pretty Much Sticks To Slow Tempos And Lush Settings, With No Significant Solo Breaks For Her Rhythm Section. As A Result, The Music Seems Perfect For Late-Evening Listening. Though She Primarily Plays Standards From The Great American Songbook On This 1956 Studio Session, She Slips In A Low-Key Treatment Of "Royal Garden Blues" And Neal Hefti's "Cherry Point," Which Was Originally Arranged As An Up-Tempo Tune But Transformed Into A Chamber Jazz Setting By Carroll.
