Who's That Girl?
Sealed 1983 US original 12" single with custom hype sticker. "The tense, brooding "Who's That Girl?" is in many ways a carbon copy of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," only with a much darker tone. Annie Lennox delivers the paranoid, accusatory lyrics in a deliberately deadpan monotone, like a stylized version of a '60s soul diva. This actually increases the song's impact; although many reviewers considered Lennox something close to a bloodless, soul-free automaton at the time, a generation of over-amped R&B singers of both genders in the years since has made Lennox's cool restraint that much more admirable. Musically, the song treads on exactly the same ground as the duo's earlier hit, Dave Stewart's hypnotic synthesizers playing a clipped, rising and falling melody at a heartbeat rhythm. The striking video, in which Lennox plays with her early gender-bending look to the fullest, was a large part of the song's success as a single in early 1984." All Music Guide – Stewart Mason
