Afghan Whigs

1965
1998 Vinyl. Rated As Great Sounding And Great Music In Issue 154, July 2005 Of The Absolute Sound. "1965" is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band The Afghan Whigs, released on October 27, 1998. The album is considered a departure from the band's earlier grunge and punk rock sound, incorporating elements of soul and R&B music. The album received critical acclaim upon release, with many critics praising the band's new direction and Greg Dulli's powerful vocals.

The album features guest appearances from a number of musicians, including former Whig Steve Earle, as well as members of The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Memphis Horns, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

The album's lead single, "Somethin' Hot," was a moderate commercial success, reaching #6 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album itself peaked at #178 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Despite its positive reception, "1965" would be The Afghan Whigs' final album before their breakup in 2001. The band would reunite in 2012 and release their eighth studio album, "Do to the Beast," in 2014.
