Bad Reputation
1981 Original. Sure There Are A Lot Of Covers On Jett's Solo Debut, But That Doesn't Make It Any Less Great. Successfully Mixing Pop, Soul, Punk And Glam, Just As She Has For The Quarter Century Plus (Gulp!) That Followed. "Bad Reputation" marked a pivotal moment in her career, coming in the wake of her tenure with the pioneering all-female rock band The Runaways. After the group disbanded, Jett faced significant challenges securing a record deal, as many labels were hesitant to back a female rock artist. Undeterred, she co-produced and self-financed the album with Kenny Laguna, initially releasing it independently. The project featured energetic covers, including Gary Glitter’s "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)," and original tracks like the now-iconic title song "Bad Reputation." The album encapsulated Jett’s commitment to a raw, unapologetic rock sound, rejecting the polished mainstream trends of the era.
