Pleasant Dreams
1981 Original With Custom Inner Sleeve. Strong VG++ copy. Produced By Graham Gouldman. "Pleasant Dreams" marked the sixth studio album from the Ramones and represented a notable shift in both production and songwriting for the band. Unlike their earlier records, which were produced by figures close to punk's raw roots, "Pleasant Dreams" was helmed by Graham Gouldman of 10cc, known for his polished pop sensibility. This collaboration caused friction within the band, as Joey Ramone sought a more pop-oriented direction while Johnny Ramone favored their classic, hard-edged sound. The resulting album showcased a broader range of styles, integrating pop, rock, and even hints of new wave, which set it apart from their previous, more stripped-down efforts. The internal creative differences during recording highlighted the growing personal and artistic rifts within the group. Though the album featured tracks like "We Want the Airwaves" and "The KKK Took My Baby Away," which have since become fan favorites, it failed to achieve significant mainstream breakthrough. Nonetheless, "Pleasant Dreams" is often viewed retrospectively as an adventurous period in the band’s discography, capturing their willingness to experiment with sound and production as they navigated the changing landscape of early 1980s rock.
