Stop Pretending
1986 Original Pressed On Quiex Type Pure Virgin Transparent Vinyl In Shrink. Excellent Follow-Up To Their Debut "It's About Time." Led By Paula Pierce, This Raucous All-Female Rock Band Evolved From Raw Garage Rock To Swaggering Hard Rock. Hailing from Los Angeles, The Pandoras were fronted by Paula Pierce and emerged from the burgeoning Paisley Underground scene, which was characterized by its blend of garage, psychedelic, and jangle pop influences. "Stop Pretending" was their first full-length release for Rhino Records and saw the band refining their raw, 1960s-inspired sound with sharper production and more assertive songwriting. The album features tracks like "In and Out of My Life (In a Day)" and "It’s About Time," which reflect both their reverence for vintage garage rock and their determination to carve out a space for women in the male-dominated rock landscape. From a historical perspective, "Stop Pretending" stands out as a bridge between the revivalist garage movement of the 1980s and the emerging alternative and punk scene that would blossom in the following decade. The Pandoras' uncompromising attitude, as heard on this album, paved the way for future all-female and female-fronted bands, helping to challenge stereotypes and broaden the scope of what women could do in rock music. Their influence and the energy of "Stop Pretending" continue to be recognized by enthusiasts of underground rock, illustrating how the album captured a transitional moment in American music history, when retro styles and rebellious spirit coexisted and fueled creative innovation.
