McLean, Jackie
McLean had a long and prolific career in jazz, beginning in the 1950s as a sideman with artists like Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. He became a bandleader in his own right, and released numerous albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
"A Fickle Sonance" features McLean on alto saxophone, with a lineup of musicians that includes trumpeter Tommy Turrentine, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Butch Warren, and drummer Billy Higgins.
The album was well-received by critics and is considered a classic of the hard bop era. It has been reissued numerous times over the years and remains a popular and influential recording in the jazz canon.
