Blues Piano Orgy
1972 First Pressing. All Previously Unissued Performances. "Blues Piano Orgy" is a celebrated compilation album that brings together five iconic blues pianists: Otis Spann, Little Brother Montgomery, Sunnyland Slim, Roosevelt Sykes, and Speckled Red. Originally released by Bluesville in 1961, the sessions were recorded in the late 1950s and early 1960s, a period when traditional blues styles were being documented and preserved amidst the growing popularity of other forms of American music. The album captures each pianist in a solo setting, allowing their distinctive approaches and individual voices to shine. Each artist represents a different facet of the blues piano tradition, from Spann's affiliation with the Muddy Waters band and his dynamic, rolling left hand, to Montgomery's more lyrical and intricate playing, Sunnyland Slim's forceful Chicago style, Sykes's barrelhouse roots, and Speckled Red's boogie-woogie flair.
