The album was released in 1959 under the RCA Victor label. The concept of the album was to have Chet Atkins, known for his country and western guitar style, play classical and popular music with a symphonic orchestra led by Arthur Fiedler, who was the conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra at the time. The album was recorded in February 1959 in Boston, Massachusetts, with the Boston Pops Orchestra and featured arrangements by various composers such as Leroy Anderson and Morton Gould. The album included covers of popular songs such as "Begin the Beguine," "Malagueña," and "Lady of Spain."
