Hopkins, Kenyon / Phil Woods

East Side / West Side
Sealed 360 Stereo Original. A Magnificent Score By Kenyon Hopkins! The TV Show Was Set Entirely In New York City And Starred George C. Scott As A Social Worker Dealing With All Kinds Of Humanity And Their Problems. Producer David Susskind Wanted A Soundtrack For His CBS Show That Captured The Verve, Feeling, And Pulse Of The Vast NYC Landscape. As On Kenyon's Score Of The Great 1961 Movie "The Hustler" His Writing For "East Side, West Side" Accomplished This Goal. Hopkins (1912-1983) Became Known As An Artist Who Knew How To Effectively Emulate "Sounds Of The City." A Former Arranger For Paul Whiteman, He Was Once Called One Of Jazz's Great Composers & Arrangers. The 16 Tracks Cover A Wide-Ranging Variety Of Moods & Images From The Show. Many Of The Cuts Are Less Than 2 Minutes In Length With The Longest, "Neil's Night Out", At Just Over 3 1/4, But Each One Is Masterfully Scored By Hopkins With Unique Orchestral Texture And Color. As On "The Hustler" Soundtrack, The Marvelous, Legendary Jazz Saxophonist Phil Woods Is Prominently Displayed On Many Tracks With Superb Effect & Performances. Moreover, All The Musicians That Kenyon Used In His Jazzy Charts For "East Side, West Side", Including A String Section, Are Stellar.
