Eye To Eye

Eye To Eye
1982 Original with inner sleeve. Eye To Eye's self-titled debut album is a stunning showcase of pop-infused jazz fusion. The duo, consisting of keyboardist Julian Marshall and vocalist Deborah Berg, create a unique sound that blends the accessibility of pop music with the virtuosity of jazz. The album's opening track, "Hunger Pains" sets the tone with its infectious melody and intricate instrumental arrangements. Berg's vocals are emotive and powerful, perfectly complementing Marshall's keyboard wizardry. The album's standout track, "Nice Girls," is a witty and playful critique of societal expectations placed on women. The musicianship on display throughout the album is top-notch, with Jim Keltner, Rick Derringer, Donald Fagen, Chuck Rainey and Jeff Porcaro helping out and produced by Gary Katz of Steely Dan fame. Eye To Eye's debut album is a testament to the power of pop music to showcase complex musicianship and thoughtful lyrics. It's a shame that the duo never achieved mainstream success, but this album remains a hidden gem for fans of jazz fusion and pop music alike.
