Fishbone
1985 Original. Light corner creases. One Of L.A.s True Cutting Edge Funk Punk Bands. Not As Well Known As The Chili Peppers But Every Bit Of High Energy Fusion Funk, Metal, Rock, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Soul. The self-titled "Fishbone" EP, released in 1985, marked the explosive debut of the Los Angeles-based band Fishbone. Arriving during a fertile era for alternative music, the record introduced Fishbone’s singular fusion of ska, punk, funk, and hard rock to a wider audience. The six-song EP showcased the band's energetic musicianship and politically tinged, sometimes satirical lyrics, as heard in tracks like "Party at Ground Zero" and "Ugly." Produced by David Kahne, the release captured the frenetic essence of the band’s live shows, driven by Angelo Moore’s dynamic vocals and Norwood Fisher’s inventive bass lines.

The album quickly established Fishbone as one of the most original and genre-defying acts of the 1980s underground scene. Their eclectic sound and multi-racial lineup defied easy categorization, helping pave the way for future bands who blurred genre boundaries. The "Fishbone" EP is often cited for its influence on the American ska and alternative rock movements, laying groundwork for the later mainstream success of related bands. Its lasting impact is reflected in the enduring popularity of songs like "Party at Ground Zero," which remains a staple of the band’s repertoire and a touchstone for fans and musicians alike.
