Hot Swing Fiddler - Radio Jazz Violin Classics
Sealed 1981 Rarity, Reissue On Sandy Hook Records Distributed By Radiola. Originally Released On Small San Francisco Based Shoestring Label. Two Corner Dings And Shrink Tear at Bottom Seam. "Joe Venuti Is Featured In Several Guest Appearances On Bing Crosby's CBS Radio Show Between 1952 And 1953 On This Compilation. Sometimes Accompanied By Just A Guitarist, But Usually By The John Scott Trotter Orchestra, The Humorous Violinist Usually Banters A Bit With His Host Before Launching Into Each Song. In Addition To Standards Such As "Tea For Two," "April In Paris," "Laura," And "Oh, Lady Be Good," Venuti Shares His Musically Funny Side, With The Silly "Wild Dog" (Complete With Venuti Barking) And The Birdlike "Wild Canary." One Disappointment Is "Body And Soul," Which Implies That Jack Benny Is A Guest, Though He Merely Joins Crosby To Introduce Venuti. Although John McDonough Doesn't Really Discuss These Specific Performances In His Detailed Liner Notes, He Really Brings Out The Mischievous Nature Of Venuti's Zany Humor, Especially With A Description Of The Violinist's Encounter With Roy Rogers' Horse, Trigger, Backstage. This Long Out Of Print Sandy Hook LP Falls Short Of Essential Since Venuti Is Best Heard With Fellow Swing Musicians, But It Is Still Worth Acquiring If Found At A Reasonable Price." AMG Review By Ken Dryden.
