Released in 1973, "It's Only a Movie" is the seventh and final studio album by the British progressive rock band Family. By this point, the band had undergone numerous lineup changes, with original members Roger Chapman and John "Charlie" Whitney remaining at the core. The album was recorded during a period of transition and uncertainty, as Family's eclectic blend of rock, folk, and R&B had become increasingly out of step with the emerging glam and hard rock scenes of the early 1970s. The band’s sound on this record is more relaxed and less experimental than their earlier works, reflecting a group both weary from years of relentless touring and perhaps aware that they were nearing the end of their creative journey together.
