Hooker, John Lee

Live At Newport
A powerful collection of Hooker classics and some deep cuts as performed by John Lee at the 1960 and 1963 Newport Folk Festival. Various Newport festivals introduced the world to a host of rediscovered bluesmen, including Son House, Mississippi John Hurt and Skip James. By contrast, Hooker was already a star when he arrived at the 1960 festival. Indeed, during the 1950s, Hooker produced a string of hard-boiled singles that rocked ghetto juke joints while scaling the R&B charts. Then, during the folk festivals of the early '60s, Hooker discovered that he could dazzle a whole new audience with intimate performances using his acoustic guitar.
