Sealed 1984 Original. From 1974, This Is A Live Club Date Recording Of Cal Collins In Trio Format, With None Other Than Great Guitarist Kenny Pool, Playing Bass. I'd Argue Jazz Is A Live Genre: All The Magic Happens When Everybody's In The Same Room Together Playing For An Audience. As Such, Some Of The Best Jazz Records Are The Live Ones (Waltz 4 Debby, Four And More, Smokin' At The Half Note, ...at Massey Hall, Full House, Alone Together... You Get The Idea). Here, Collins Shows Off His Single Note Runs And Straight Ahead Sensibility. Contrast This With Many Of His Other Records Where He Demonstrates Complete Mastery Of Chord Melody Solo Playing. Side A Is Simply Brilliant Jazz Swing. Side B Kicks Off With A Country Swing Number, Paying Homage To His Musical Roots. On This Piece, Kenny Poole Takes A Bass Solo And Reveals That He Is Actually An Accomplished Guitarist. "Favella"[sic] Is Performed As A Samba Here. Okay, If You Stuck Around To The End, The Real Treat Is Their Up-tempo Hard Boppin' "Milestones". Whoa. Cal's Tone Is Bright And Clean, Very Complimentary In The Trio Setting.
