Cherrelle / Alexander O'Neal
Saturday Love
1985 US 12" Single, Still In Shrink Housed In A Black Generic Jacket, Which Shows Light Crease Marks. Pitman Pressing. Special Version From Her Tabu Records LP "High Priority". Produced By Jimmy Jam And Terry Lewis. "Though She'd Had Hits With "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On," "Fragile...Handle With Care," And "You Look Good To Me," "Saturday Love" Is The Cut That Most Consider To Be Cherrelle's Breakthrough Hit. The Making Of The Smooth Mid-Tempo Groover Is Regarded By Songwriters/Producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis As Being One Of Their Most Difficult Records To Make. The Duo Had Just Opened Their Minnesota-Based Flyte Time Studios When The Engineer Abruptly Walked Out. Not Having Any Experience Running A Professional Recording Studio, Jam & Lewis Blew Up Speakers And Misconnected In A Forced Trial And Error Exercise To Learn Pro Recording Techniques. The Two Were Grateful To Cherrelle For Not Blowing Up, Due To The Stop-And-Start Nature Of The Recording Sessions For Her Affair Album. Her Patience Was Rewarded With "Saturday Love," Which Held Number Two R&b For Three Weeks And Made It To Number 26 Pop In Early 1986. She Repeated The Same Chart Number Position A Couple Of Years Later With The Number Two R&B/Number 26 Pop Duet With Alexander O'Neal, "Never Knew Love Like This." Cherrelle Redid "Saturday Love" On Her 1999 Album The Right Time." AMG Review By Ed Hogan.
