The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy
1974 Original. One Of The Unheralded Country Song Writers Shows Of Some Of His Best Songs. Great Starter LP. "The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy" marked his full-length debut as a country music artist. Prior to this, Coe had a reputation as a songwriter, notably penning hits for other artists, but this album was his first serious step into the spotlight. The record was produced by Ron Bledsoe and featured a group of seasoned Nashville session musicians, including members of Area Code 615. Its title and Coe’s persona were inspired in part by his fascination with the theatrical and flamboyant, as he performed in a rhinestone-studded mask and cowboy attire, setting himself apart from the traditional Nashville image. The album’s sound blends classic honky-tonk with outlaw country influences, reflecting the era’s shift toward grittier, more personal storytelling within the genre.
