Violin Concerto In D Major
1960 Full Dimensional Stereo Original. Some surface noise. Top seam split and ware on the bottom. Nathan Milstein, Violin; William Steinberg Conducting The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The Violin Concerto in D Major was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between March and April 1878. It was premiered on December 4, 1881, in Vienna, with violinist Adolf Brodsky and conducted by Hans Richter. The concerto was initially criticized for being overly difficult for the soloist and not adhering to traditional concerto structure. It wasn't until the 20th century that the concerto gained widespread popularity, thanks in part to the performances of virtuoso violinists like Jascha Heifetz and David Oistrakh. In 1945, violinist Nathan Milstein recorded the concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Ormandy. This recording is now considered a classic interpretation of the work and is highly regarded by critics and music lovers alike. Milstein's recording was re-released several times over the years, including in 1991 as part of a box set of Tchaikovsky's complete works for violin and orchestra.
